Sometimes a company will want to get a completely new Companies House web Authentication Code (CAC), rather than a reminder of the existing code.
This will often be the case if there has been a change of directors or advisers and the new person responsible for all future filings will want to make sure the former directors/advisers do not still have an ability to file on behalf of the company.
If you do not wish to reset the Company Authentication Code and instead simply require a reminder of the existing code then please see How Do I Get a Reminder of the Companies House Web Authentication Code?
To cancel/request a new Authentication Code you will need to:
1) Login to Companies House Webfiling here. If you do not already have an account you will need to register for one.
2) Select 'WebFiling'
2) Select the country that the company was registered in and input the Company number. Then click 'Continue'.
3) You will then be presented with the company name - assuming you are happy this is correct, then click 'Confirm and continue'.
4) Enter the current company authentication code and hit 'Continue'.
Where is the Web Authentication Code Stored by Inform Direct?
5) Select 'Company Authentication' from the left hand side of the screen.
4) Complete the relevant section, depending on whether you wish to change or cancel the Authentication Code.
Note: If you cancel the Authentication Code entirely you will no longer be able to use Inform Direct for this company. Why?
You should treat your Authentication Code as you would your bank card PIN as anybody that knows the code can make online filings for the company. As such, you may wish to consider mixing numbers and letters to ensure it is not too easy to guess.
Confirmation will be posted to the company's Registered Office. Don't forget to update anybody else that completes online filing for this company.
Note: When you have the new code you will need to update the code stored on Inform Direct. How do I add a new Authentication Code?
