Using Inform Direct to amend the name or rights associated to an existing membership class is extremely straightforward.

If you instead need to create a completely new Membership class then please see How Do I Create a Membership Class?

1. Go to the Membership Classes tab and click on the pencil next to the class you wish to change.

2. This will bring up the below screen. Here you can make the necessary amendments to either the Membership class name or Membership rights. Both can be done at the same time, if necessary.

Note: Here is some generic wording if suitable for your requirements: Each member has the right to receive notice of, and attend general meetings. Subject to any restrictions in the articles of association of the company, every member shall be entitled to one vote.

You should check the wording accords with the articles of association. If you are not sure of the wording to add please take professional advice.

3. Once you are happy with the description of the Membership rights click the green 'Submit' button. Nothing will be sent to Companies House.

4. You now have the opportunity to generate any necessary supporting documentation. You can simply tick alongside the documents that you require and click the green 'Continue' button.

5. Depending on whether you changed the Membership class name or rights (or both), Inform Direct will generate forms SH12 and/or SH13. These will need signing. You can then either print and post these to Companies House or alternatively utilise their upload service here to upload the completed forms.
