Inform Direct holds a variety of addresses for companies and individuals

All addresses are kept on the register at Companies House. Some are visible to the public, others are not. You can add and amend address details through Inform Direct. The different types of addresses can be found below:

1. Registered office addresses

Every company is required to have a registered office address that is visible on the public register at Companies House. This is the official address of a company.

More information on the Registered office.

2. Residential addresses

Every Director and PSC is required to have a residential address listed on the public register. This will not be visible to the general public, only to the police and credit reference companies. Where a director and PSC is the same person the residential address should also be the same.

More information on the Residential address.

3. Officer/PSC service addresses

Every officer and PSC of a company must provide a Service address. This is where any formal documents being 'served' on a Director, Secretary or PSC to the company will be sent. This is visible to the general public on Companies House website.

Note: Companies House has recently started calling the service address the correspondence address.  If you need to update the correspondence address at Companies House you will need to edit the service address in Inform Direct.

4. Shareholder's Contact addresses

When creating a Share Certificate, Membership Certificate or a Dividend Voucher, Inform Direct will populate it with the Contact address held for the shareholder or member. This is only kept on Inform Direct and is not sent to Companies House.

How do I add or Change the Shareholder Contact Address?

Note: The exception to this is when incorporating a new company. The shareholder contact address provided for the initial subscribers at incorporation stage will be visible on the incorporation documents available on public record. Once the company has been incorporated, you can amend the shareholder contact address without sending any further updates in relation to this to Companies House.

5. SAIL addresses

A Single Alternative Inspection Location (SAIL address) is where a company can keep its statutory records and make them available for public inspection separate to the registered office address.
