An authenticator app is third party software which generates a Time-based One-time Password Algorithm.  In simple terms this means a 6 digit code which changes every 30 seconds.


An authenticator app will generally be downloaded on to a phone or tablet. Below is an example.



Only the person in possession of the phone or tablet will be able to see the code(s).


Note: You will note that each application that has been set up to require a two-step factor authentication has a separate code. We would recommend installing the authenticator app on a different device to the one you will normally use for Inform Direct.


Once you have activated the two-step verification feature you will need the device with the authenticator app whenever you login to your Inform Direct account. While it is possible to log in without your phone to hand it is an involved procedure.

When installing your chosen authenticator app, make sure your mobile device's time is set to automatic. If your device's time is set manually, the new verification code generated every 30 seconds by your authenticator app could be out of sync. This may result in an error at login.
