An authenticator app is third party software which generates a Time-based One-time Password Algorithm. In simple terms this means a 6 digit code which changes every 30 seconds.
An authenticator app will generally be downloaded on to a phone or tablet. Below is an example.
Only the person in possession of the phone or tablet will be able to see the code(s).
Note: You will note that each application that has been set up to require a two-step factor authentication has a separate code. We would recommend installing the authenticator app on a different device to the one you will normally use for Inform Direct.
Once you have activated the two-step verification feature you will need the device with the authenticator app whenever you login to your Inform Direct account. While it is possible to log in without your phone to hand it is an involved procedure.
Will I be able to log in if I don't have my phone and I have enabled two-step authentication?
Which authenticator app should I use?
We have suggested a few authenticator apps below. By clicking on the links below you will be redirected to the installation guides for the corresponding app:
- Google Authenticator for Android and Apple devices.
- Authy for Android and Apple devices, Mac and Windows computers.
- Microsoft Authenticator for Windows Phones.
They all work in much the same way.
When installing your chosen authenticator app, make sure your mobile device's time is set to automatic. If your device's time is set manually, the new verification code generated every 30 seconds by your authenticator app could be out of sync. This may result in an error at login.
Each authenticator app publish their own support guides. The links below will take you to them:
