The Company Status is an indicator of whether the company still exists or not.

The Company Status is a value returned by Companies House.

It will always be one of three values:

  • Active
  • Proposal to strike off
  • Dissolved

If it is Active (by far the most common value) it just means the company exists and has neither been Dissolved nor is there a Proposal to strike the company off.

The Company Status is not linked to whether the company is trading or not. A dormant company will still appear as Active unless the company has entered the dissolution process. See How to make your trading company dormant

You cannot edit the Company Status. The value returned will be the value showing at Companies House. See below example for Inform Direct.

If a Proposal to strike off has been suspended e.g. because the overdue accounts or confirmation statement has been filed, then the Company Status will change automatically from Proposal to strike the company off to Active.
