Once a SAIL address (Single Alternative Inspection Location) has been set, there is no mechanism to remove this altogether, short of court order. That said, there are potential workarounds.

1) Change the recorded SAIL address.

You can change the SAIL address - but not to the same address as the Registered Office.

It common to wish to change the location of the unused SAIL address when it is no longer in use. Companies House rules do not allow the address to be the same as the company registered office address. However, we have known of cases where changing to the registered office address has been accepted. There are tighter restrictions on software based filings, so it is more commonly accepted using Companies House Webfiling where there are less controls in place.

How do I change the SAIL address?

Once you have set up a SAIL address even if you no longer keep any documents there, Companies House will only remove it altogether if you obtain a court order authorising its removal.

2) Notify Companies House that nothing is stored at the SAIL address.

Most people who no longer need a SAIL address simply notify Companies House that they have removed all the documents - you can do this using Inform Direct - and just leave the SAIL address as is, but have it recorded that no documents stored there.

How do I record a change in the documents stored at the SAIL address?

Note: Companies House are aware of the issue of redundant SAIL addresses but have given no indication that they will provide a simplified process to remove them.
