Adding a designation to a shareholding is an optional step in both the allotment and share transfer wizard.

When allotting or transferring shares you are given the opportunity to add a designation.  You do not have to add a designation.  It is entirely optional.

Typically a designation is added if the shares are being held on trust or by a nominee.  Inform Direct gives you the opportunity to add a designation such as 're Amanda Smith Settlement Trust' or 're 700123' whenever you transfer or allot shares.

How do I allot or transfer shares to a trust?

Whenever you are allotting or transferring shares you will be presented with the below screen asking if any designation is required.

If you leave the radio button as No you will not be able to add a designation at a later date.  If you click Yes the ability to add the designation will appear.

In the above example the designation "re 701123" has been added. If you click the green "Next" button you will come to the summary screen.

To see the designation you will need to click on the "View details" link. This will show both that a designation has been added and what the designation is.

Because this example is an allotment the details will need to be sent to Companies - hence the red "Send to Companies House" button. Had it been a transfer it would only have been a green "Submit" button.

Note: The designation is not included with the name of the shareholder when a Confirmation Statement is sent to Companies House.
