The option to file dormant accounts for a company limited by shares will appear providing the company has the correct accounting category. If this button does not showm it is likely that the company is not eligible for this filing. Please see Why Can I Not See the Button to Prepare and File Accounts?

1. Go to the Dashboard tab and click on 'Prepare & file accounts' button.

Note: The dormant company accounts process is only for companies that have an accounting category of NULL, NO ACCOUNTS FILED or DORMANT

2. You must then carefully read and confirm the statements listed to apply as dormant. If you can do this click the blue box which will then show a tick and press the green 'Continue' button.

3. Inform Direct will then suggest the date the accounts should be made up to based on the information available from Companies House. You should only change the suggested date if it is incorrect.

If you change the suggested date that the Dormant Company Accounts are being made up to without having first changed the Accounting Reference Date Companies House are likely to reject the accounts.

Note: You should only change the suggested date if you have previously changed your year end. How do I change my Accounting Reference Date?

4. If this is the very first set of Dormant Company Accounts that will be filed for this company then Inform Direct will use the information available from Companies House to suggest how the accounts should be presented. You can edit this.

5. If the company has previously filed Dormant Company Accounts before it was registered with Inform Direct then again Inform Direct will use the information available to suggest how the accounts should be presented. You can edit this. It will also show the figures for the Previous Period.

Note: The Net assets must equal the Shareholders' fund.

6. If you have previously filed Dormant Company Accounts using Inform Direct then the figures for the current year will be identical to those for the previous year. These cannot be changed.

7. If an additional share class should be shown then you can click on the 'Add a share class' link to do this otherwise click the green 'Continue' button

8. The next screen contains the various statements that need to be confirmed. It is unlikely that the company has acted as an agent but if it did you will need to check the 'yes' box. This fact will then be included as one of the statements in the filed accounts.

Note: If you are a subscriber to Inform Direct, the option for the approval process will appear at this point. How do I prepare draft Dormant Accounts for approval prior to submission?

9. Add the date the accounts are being signed. This cannot be a date in the future. Where there is more than one director Inform Direct will offer a choice of who will (electronically) sign them.

10. On payment of the appropriate fee the accounts will then be sent to Companies House. You can print a copy of what has been sent.

11.  As soon as Companies House accept the accounts we will send you an email confirming this. The email will contain a version of the accounts just filed.

A copy of the accounts filed will also be filed in the document library.

Inform Direct will then automatically update all the due dates and send you a reminder when the next set of accounts are due.

Note: If you have successfully filed Dormant Company accounts at Companies House you will not need to advise HMRC provided HMRC have previously confirmed that they will consider your company to be dormant.
